The Criminology Program
What is Criminology?
Criminology involves the study of crime, deviance, and the making of laws, as well as how society responds to deviant and criminal behavior through punishment and other mechanisms of social control. This program emphasizes criminological theory, research, and policy.
Specific foci of research amoung faculty include:
- Gender-based violence
- Racial and ethnic inequality in the criminal legal system
- Neighborhood context of crime and justice
- Comparative criminology/criminal justice
- Familial incarceration
- The collateral consequences of incarceration
- Criminological theory
