Criminology and Diversity Certificates

The Sociology Department offers two certificate programs. These certificates can be earned by students who have declared a Sociology major or minor, as well as those that are pursuing other majors around campus.    


 

The Criminology Certificate

This certificate is useful to students who want to earn a specialized education in criminology. To earn the Criminology Certificate, students must complete one required course

SOC 3561        Criminology

Plus 3 Sociology electives (9 credit hours) from the Crime, Deviance, and Law program area, and an additional 2 allied courses (6 credit hours) that are taught by a department other than Sociology.

The Diversity Certificate

This certificate is useful to students who are interested in understanding the causes and consequences of diversity and inequality. Students will study the social impacts of race, ethnicity, class, and gender through multiple perspectives and contemporary theories. To earn the Diversity Certificate, students must complete one required course

SOC 3380        Social Inequality: Disadvantage in the Land of Opportunity

Plus 3 Sociology electives (9 credit hours) from the Diversity and Inequality program area, and an additional 2 allied courses (6 credit hours) that are taught by a department other than Sociology.
